☔️ Where's the umbrella - Gdje je kišobran?
Waking up these mornings are a decidedly the chilliest for sometime. It’s also been really really wet and miserable during the daytime. The forecast seems to be all over the place.

Firstly the Results of Our “Micro Survey”
Thank you so so much for those of you that found time to tell us when you would like to receive this newsletter in your Inbox.
From when we started this, Saturday at 0700 CET was the publish day and time.
We had no idea if that was working. To be honest, we put our finger in the wind and took a wild guess.
As a result of your responses, it will stay on Saturday but shift to 0900. Nothing earth shattering in that.
Here’s a quick view for you.
This Weeks Video from the Village.
Picking the Last of our Red Apples.
It was a very wet and rainy day. There weren’t too many apples left to be honest.
So sit back with a coffee, tea or whatever, and enjoy a look around our Autumnal Garden.
A relaxed video from the Village. Do you like this style of video?
Yes, it’s that time of the year to prepare pickled shredded cabbage for salads, and complete pickled cabbages for use in recipes and meals during the coming winter months.
As we start our “Zimnica” preparations, we’ll keep you updated by video, of this part of rural life here in the village, in future newsletters.
The Seasons They Are ’a Changing.
Waking up these mornings are a decidedly the chilliest for sometime. It’s also been really really wet and miserable during the daytime. The forecast seems to be all over the place. As I write this, its misty outside.
Yesterday, we had a nice sunny day with almost cloudless, blue, skies. We have a friend, Igor, who is the weather man on the regional TV station, who says, (can this be true?), that there’s a week of sunny and dry ahead with temperatures up to 21C. Let’s see what happens.
I have always been one that has believed in climate change. From my earliest years, the 1950’s and still remembering SMOG (does anyone remember that?) in London, where you could hardly breathe. Then living in the Ruhr Valley in Germany, the centre of that country'‘s industry (thin layers of coal dust on almost everything, EVERY DAY). And my first trip to Sarajevo via Zenica, where chimneys still belched the yellow sight and smell of what I think might be sulphur?
By the Way, as you approach Sarajevo, even today, and depending on weather conditions, you can see the layer of “crap” seemingly suspended between the mountains surrounding the city like a canopy.
Prince William from the United Kingdom has said recently:
Before travelling to space, save the planet.
Sadly, and for the moment at least, Bosnia and Herzegovina isn’t in the game of doing anything positive for climate change.
To be honest, the country has other priorities that’s for sure, but currently its got a pitiful record.
The 26th UN Climate Change Conference will be held between 31 October – 12 November 2021 in Glasgow. It’s going to be interesting to see what transpires.

Srbac Resident Builds a Rotating House.
I found this exceedingly whacky story this week, from the small town of Srbac, not too far away from us.

The First Female Editor-in-Chief and Publisher in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Milena Mrazović was born on 28 December 1863 in what is now Croatia.
Growing up in a middle-class family, she was educated in Budapest before moving with her family, in 1878, to Banja Luka.
Her father had been appointed as an administrative officer, several weeks after Bosnia-Herzegovina was occupied by Austria-Hungary.
A pianist and composer, Mrazović took part in the first concert of classical music in Bosnia-Herzegovina, held in Banja Luka in May 1881.
In 1884, Milena became the first professional journalist in the province, rising to become the first female editor-in-chief and publisher in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
The Mural of Milena, above, was a joint initiative between UNDP Bosnia and Herzegovina, the initiative Žene BiH as well as the Embassy of Sweden in Sarajevo
The mural was created by Banja Luka artist, Nataša Konjević, and took some 2 and a half days to paint. She said:
This was the fastest mural I've ever painted
You can see more of Nataša’s workon her Instagram account.
She is also on Facebook.
Žene BiH is an artistic, activist and research initiative, that have taken biographies of over 50 BiH women, who have broken stereotypes and advocated women’s rights and emancipation. A Sad Musical Anniversary from the Western Balkans
The early 2000’s saw a Macedonian singer called Tose Proeski, become one of the most loved in the western Balkans. Known not only for his musical skills, but also his humanitarian works, the career of this extremely talented musician, was tragically cut short in a fatal traffic accident on the 16 October 2007, near Okučani on the highway that connects Zagreb and Belgrade. He was 26 years old.
I asked one of my good friends in North Macedonia (Riste) to recommend a track from Tose, to commemorate this sad event.
Riste also sent the images below of the memorial to Tose Proeski in the capital, Skopje.
And Finally.
That's our update from our village here in the north of Bosnia and Herzegovina for this week.
