How to make a perfect non slimy oat milk that is creamy, much cheaper, and better than “Oatly”.
👇
Well it is very simple but you need time. This is not a quick process, but at least 30 minutes of work, as you need to strain it a few times until the small oat particles are removed.
INGREDIENTS:
100 grams oats (not instant oats)
30 grams of almonds (soaked overnight)
1 litre of "cold" water (from the fridge). This is a must. The colder the water, the less slimy your milk will be.
A pinch of salt
OPTIONAL INGREDIENTS:
1 tablespoon of maple syrup/honey/agave syrup, or 2 dates to sweeten it
Vanilla extract
You will also need a blender, cold water from the fridge, and a very fine strainer/nut bag/cheesecloth.
METHOD:
Instead of almonds, you can use any other type of nuts that you have in your pantry, as you need some healthy oil to make this milk more creamy.
Cashew nuts work the best, but they are so expensive here in Bosnia and Herzegovina, that I don't use them.
Almonds are a great alternative.
You can also make it without any nuts, but then the result will not be the same.
First thing you need to do is soak the almonds overnight. Before you make the milk, peel off the skins.
Place the oats and almonds in a high speed blender then add ice cold water and blend it for about 20-30 seconds, no more than that, because then the milk will be more slimy as the speed of the blender releases more gluten.
Now the fun part starts.
You need to strain the milk 3-4 or even 5 times, to remove all the particles of the oats as they make the milk slimy.
I strain my milk 5 times before storing it in the fridge.
I use a fine strainer first, then I use cheesecloth. If you wish you can sweeten your milk when you are finished straining it. 😊
With the remaining pulp, you can make smoothies, pancakes etc.
Let me know if you tried this and how you got on?
