Stray Dogs, Fox Holes & Feeling 16 at 70
A Walk and Talk Video
It’s still a chilly Northern Bosnia at the moment.
Sun’s trying to get through the clouds just behind the camera.
We’re still overcast and I really can’t wait for those blue skies to come back and show you.
I’m over 70 and I’ve got a big problem. My body’s getting old but I’m still a 16 year old inside my head.
I’ve been given this rather small bobble hat, “English Rugby Club Supporter” by some friends in Zenica.
I’m out in the garden today and I wanted just to bring you up to speed with some of the things that happen and one of the things that we are not plagued or pestered by, but is the problem with stray dogs.
We have two dogs at the moment, well two and a half because we don’t know if we’re going to keep the third one. We’ve always had dogs that have been dropped off in the village. Strays.
We take them in, we get them vaccinated and sterilised because otherwise they’re just everywhere. But we’ve had a problem over the last week. A really sweet dog came along and he was just, well, he is super sweet.
But it’s that time of the year and he’s off chasing this bitch thats hanging around and she keeps coming here and they bark all night long and they drive the other two dogs crazy.
So we don’t know what to do. I don’t like to push dogs away, but it might mean that Božo is going to have to go because he’s causing chaos. Not his fault of course, but last night was just, we didn’t get any sleep at all.
Božo’s trying to do his thing and the female dog is a lot bigger than him.
As you can see, I have brought you up to the top of the garden. I found the hole where they (the dogs) get through and I’ve blocked it with a shovel, a snow shovel and a piece of wood. It’s not brilliant but it’ll do. We can work out how to block it up properly but I was walking behind the grapes and then I saw this, this sort of tunnel, where there’s one, two, three small entry points.
Now they’re full of leaves so they’re not new.
But I wondered if there’s anybody from around the world watching this video. If you know, let me know in the comments please. Is this from a badger or a fox?
Now a fox is a lisatc in the local language and Jazavac is a badger, and we have both badgers and foxes here. Talking about foxes while we’re away, little digression, when we’re in Zenica we were driving around doing a little bit of urbex and on the way back from that little expedition we stopped at an extreme sports centre to meet somebody.
And while we’re waiting for them to come along, you never guess what happened, right round the corner this really beautiful fox just stopped and looked and then raced away. So yeah, there’s tons of wildlife here. Even round this village there are foxes. I’ve never seen a badger here yet, but I have seen lots of deer around here.
Anyway, going back to the story, if you can let us know what these holes are, that would be appreciative.
Being a city boy from London, back in the UK, this was not part of my life. Tamara says they’re foxes.
I don’t know. Maybe you can let me know.
Tamara and I are thinking about what we’re going to do in the near future when the warm weather comes. It will be here in April so it’s just February and March to go through.
Thank you very much for the comments about my new little drone which I’ve got in my hand here this DJI NEO 2. I think this is going to be really really good for me.
What’s going to happen then with the dogs? You may well ask.
I have a feeling that we’re going to be taking Božo somewhere away from here where it’s safe and letting him loose.
Because having him here is just going to be a nightmare. female dogs, these bitches are sniffing like no tomorrow. And it’s not only causing us earache and hassle, but our neighbours as well.
We live in a rural village. And the last thing I want to do is to set a scenario, a situation, if you will, where they come out and shoot the dogs. Because there are sheep and pigs and everything around here.
I don’t agree with shooting dogs. I’m a city boy, right? But I know worrying animals is not the thing. Hard one for me. I’ll keep you updated. But I think Božo might be going off into the countryside and then he’ll make his way. It’s nature.

Thank you for watching these little slices of my life. If you’d don’t mind here are 3 questions I have for you.
What would make you hit “play” on a video post instead of just reading?
What makes a video episode feel personal or meaningful to you?
Would you like me to add audio versions of my video posts so you can choose how to enjoy them?
I’ll give a complimentary subscription to Coffee and Rakija for life for taking the time to answer.

Most likely done by a fox.
Do Bozo a little favor, neuter him and give him less incentive to howl and create more unwanted dogs.
