Welcome to the this edition of This Week in the Balkans
Thanks for reading my posts. It means a lot and I really appreciate your support and being part of the community here.
If You Just Like Audio ⬆️
I’ve been noticing a shift in the weather lately. The sunny days have given way to rain, and the temperature has dropped from 30 degrees to 15 degrees. The forecast does predict a few more sunny days before we’re back to rain again, so it seems like autumn is really starting to set in.
In preparation for the colder months, we’ve been busy with Zimnica, (winter food), using bell peppers and tomatoes from my garden to make pickled salads and thick tomato sauce.
We’ve also started the process of making pickled cabbage, which is a staple in the local culture here. It’s especially used in a dish called sarma, which are stuffed cabbage rolls.
Recently, Tamara’s parents bought some cabbages from the local market for pickling. They’re now soaking in a brine mixture in a barrel, ready for fermentation.
Outside my front door, there’s a field where the corn harvest has just taken place. I managed to capture some footage of the process. I also tried to show you the river Vrbas nearby, but unfortunately, there were some issues with my drone camera 🙁.
A big thank you to all of you for subscribing and supporting me. Some content remains free, but your support helps us keep going.
