Tito's Coin.
The coin commemorates the founding of the Socialist Federal Republic of Jugoslavija in the city of Jajce in 1943.
A Coin from the former Jugoslavija.
It was given to me back in 1998-1999 time, when I really first arrived here.
It's been in my wallet ever since. It's my constant companion.
The coin commemorates the founding of the Socialist Federal Republic of Jugoslavija in the city of Jajce in 1943.
Jajce is in Bosnia and Herzegovina and just an hour or so drive South from where I live.
On the obverse is the bust of Josip Broz (Tito).
Today the coin has no value, or I assume no value, but for me it's a fragment of living history.
There is a heated debate in this region about history, (either actual or re-written), which is, I have to say, something that is sad to observe.
For example there are 3 history books that are used in schools here. Revisionism in full march without a doubt.
This coin in itself could stimulate a historical reaction. It will be interesting to read any reactions to me publishing this!
