It wasn't until recently, that I found out that Fanta the soft drink, was a German replacement for Coca Cola during the second world war.
In 1941 when the US entered the war against Germany, production to/for Germany was halted.
So the Germans created Fanta.Fanta is short for Fantasia.
This got me thinking about my arriving in the Western Balkans and being introduced to Cockta.
Cockta was introduced to the former Jugoslavija in 1953.
Coca Cola hadn't entered the market in the Balkans yet, and a Slovene company developed a herb based tasting soft drink.
Allegedly, Cockta was the shortening of "Cocktail".
Cockta can still be found almost everywhere here and has been occasionally and affectionately called "Tito's Coke".
