"Vikendica" or weekend houses, are small, usually rural properties that are an integral part of this country’s cultural landscape and are used for a wide range of purposes.
I came here first in 1993 for a short time during the conflict. Not a pleasant experience. Never in a million years did I think that I would return in late 1998. It’s a long story. There’s a link to a podcast where I tell my detailed story on my about page, but, in a nutshell, I never really left. I say that Bosnia and Herzegovina is like my Hotel California. “You can check out but you can never Leave” 😉
Such gorgeous countryside! Your drone makes all the difference. The Russian dachas, at least in my experience with friends there, are also important for growing vegetables and fruit which they preserve and eat all winter. If memory serves me right, here seemed to be a period of two or three weeks at the end of the summer where everyone went off to their dachas to harvest and preserve.
It is beautiful and very peaceful. It reminds me of the Hungarian countryside, which is understandable given its geographical proximity.
I'm curious, how did you end up living in Bosnia?

Wow! That is brave and interesting.
