Home is an important place and where we live now really feels like home and it might be because it’s the village I grew up in and returned here two years ago. It’s peaceful and I can think here, unlike in the town we lived in for 17 years. We will stay here. It’s quite likely our forever home.
Yes, a village called Spencers Wood. It’s great to know that Bosnia Herzegovina is treating you well and that you’ve settled there. I’ve some friends who live in Serbia and much like you he’s a Brit and his wife a Serbian but she moved to London with her job and that’s where they met. Just before Covid they moved out to Serbia. I miss them and hope to visit them someday.
In a previous life, I was a soldier who started his military career based in Arborfield. I served a lot of time in Germany, but lived in Caversham Park and Sonning Common. My eldest daughter lives in Woodcote now. Maybe when I do get back for a short visit we could share a tea or something?
Lots of this resonates for me, David. Although my story is different and my husband is English, too (probably why my Slovenian is not as good as it could be). I left the UK for adventure and to learn, not to escape. Although I was dismayed by Brexit (but that came 16 years after we left).
I always try not to impose my expectations but to observe, learn and sometimes borrow or adopt bits of other cultures. I'm not really an expat (not sent here by a company), nor a digital nomad (not totally mobile because of my children's education) nor quite an immigrant (we probably won't stay in Slovenia permanently, although it may always be home in some sense).
I will probably keep travelling to different countries but I may go back to the UK eventually (although I anticipate issues reintegrating). I am citizen of the world (even though Teresa May says it's an insult). Crumbs, maybe I'm an inbetweener, too!

Oooh I’m about to do a video around the area or a series of them for my other publication Rambling Photographer.
Small world! That would be amazing and lovely to catch up.

Lisa, thanks for the reply. Yes, maybe we are in-betweeners. We should chat more about this maybe in a podcast? What do you think?
Yes, that could be fun! I'd also like to come and stay w
at your place sometime with my husband. He is often covering stories in Bih. Maybe we could kill 2 birds with one stone (poor birds!)
It would be great to meet. Just let me know?
Will do, David!
