Your Opinion Matters: The Future of My Substack Journey
Should I Bring All My Focus Here to Substack?
Hello from a snowy Village,
First, I want to thank you (again), for being part of this journey as I share my reflections, stories, and discoveries about Bosnia.
Your support whether through reading, listening to my podcasts, or watching my videos means the world to me.
It REALLY does!
Recently, I’ve been feeling more than a bit conflicted about where to focus my energy. While I’ve enjoyed creating content on YouTube, I’ve noticed that the engagement and interaction here on Substack far surpasses what I experience on other platforms.
This has led me to a question I’d like your input on:
Should I make Substack my primary platform for all my content: written pieces, audio podcasts, and videos?
Why I’m Considering This
Substack has become a space where I can connect with you directly. Unlike other platforms, it feels more personal and engaging, and it allows me to share stories without the distractions of algorithms or ads (which i truly loathe)
But I don’t want to make this decision alone.
Your feedback is crucial, as this platform is about building a community and sharing experiences together.
What Would This Look Like?
If I focus fully on Substack, here’s what you can expect:
• Written Content: Personal stories, cultural insights, and reflections on life in Bosnia.
• Audio Podcasts: Stories about specific topics, like local traditions or my experiences as an expat, as well as interviews with people who have a link to both Bosnia and Herzegovina and the wider western Balkans
• Video Content: Embedded videos to complement my posts, showing the places and stories I write about.
Substack would become the hub for everything I create, delivered straight to your inbox.
Your Input Matters
I’d love to hear from you:
Please share your thoughts above, in the comments below or reply to this email.
I read every response and value your opinion deeply.
Thank you for helping me shape the future of this space.
I’m excited to hear what you think and to continue this journey together.
Warm regards and Bests as Ever,
David.
I think the YouTube question depends on what you want out of it. Having your videos on YouTube will put and keep them out there to larger audience -- at least potentially larger -- than just putting your videos on Substack. If your objective is to inform the most people possible about your country, it seems like it would be a pity to stop posting them on YouTube and only post them on Substack -- unless it just takes too much time to do both.
As far as your Substack content, I'm more of a reader but I think it's great to provide all of the possibilities.
I'm a reader these days. Thank you for all the care and time you put into these vignettes of life in Bosnia. Only read a few Substack folks, and you are one. You interview well, and that's hard. Like a good priest. Most of all, a sincere nature. Shows in the videos, but a mix of all media - images, video, text - a media salad, is my suggestion going forward. They complement each other. And just turned 71 last week. Was south of you, Thessaloniki, 50 years back, but not yet into the Balkans.
